Quick Logos

I was given an assignment to photograph common logos, as well as to sketch some package designs. Logos and package design are extremely important aspects in the retail industry. There have been countless times where I have purchased something, even if I don't necessarily need it, but because of the item's unique packaging. Logos need to be simple, yet express an enormous amount of information quickly. Simple shapes and lines convey an entire business' service, product, and reputation. Most of all, it must be memorable.

So many aspects of logos and packaging are ingrained in our society. Iconic images such as Mr. Bubbles, Mr. Clean, Aunt Jemimah, are instantly recalled in our memories from childhood. When I was younger, I was fascinated with the idea of being a mermaid. I can clearly remember staring at the Chicken of the Sea tin can and thinking to myself how beautiful the little cartoon drawing of the mermaid was. My parents have told me that I would laugh uncontrollably as an infant when the laundry softener Snuggle bear came across the TV. These are products we use on a daily basis, products that are essential to our way of life. In purchasing an item, no matter how insignificant, I feel there is a connection with it, a sense of pride or accomplishment in spending hard earned money to have it. Why not make it beautiful?
